I’ve bought other rugs from this online store even recently and never a problem - so I think it’s a rug/brand issue only but this small entryway rug absolutely stinks like a skunk (chemicals on the backing). I’ve aired it out for a week on my covered deck and it still smells. It will be thrown away unfortunately since it’s obviously not returnable now. Color is ok. Weave is very flat but alright. The smell can’t be overlooked. Do NOT buy this rug. I bought two- shame on me.
We're sorry to hear it, but not too surprised. Brand new rugs (and carpet) can have a chemical smell that usually dissipates within a week or two, but can take longer if the rug was freshly produced, then wrapped and shipped 'hot off the press'. Different materials will have different smells, and all will dissipate over time. The easiest solution is to vacuum the rug to flush air through the pile. A fan on the rug, overnight, can also help.
